Physicochemical Properties of Activated Carbons Produced from Coffee Waste and Empty Fruit Bunch by Chemical Activation Method

In this study, coffee waste (CW) and empty fruit bunches (EFB) were employed as precursors for the production of activated carbons by a chemical activation method. KOH, ZnCl2, H3PO4 used activating agents along with their three mixing ratios 1:0, 1:1, 1:3, w/w, carbonization temperatures 600 °C, 700 800 °C to prepare these carbons. The highest yields produced observed at value 45.20% 48.20% bunch, 1:3 w/w (H3PO4) ratio. However, maximum specific surface area was 3068 m2 g?1, 2147 g?1 obtained bunch carbons, respectively. features products exhibited acute morphological changes, clearly noticed via SEM studies. Moreover, in Van Krevelen diagram, it also that both H/C O/C dramatically decreased 0.0019 0.0759, 0.0066 0.1659 (1:3) potassium hydroxide zinc chloride ratio, respectively, similar phenomenon supported thermal gravimetric analysis. All results, together characteristics products, suggest scheme can be an effective strategy carbon from such residues.
